Past Keynsham Angling Association news reports organised into year-by-year pages.

15th Dec 2005 • 2006 Licences On Sale Now, Change Of Secretary
The 2006 Keynsham Angling Association licences are now on sale at the usual outlets priced 14.00 for Adults and 6.00 for Concessions. There has been no price increase once again. The Club has agreed to stock Bacons Tackle Box in Bath with tickets and tabs, although both Avon Angling (Whitehall) and Fish & Field (Chipping Sodbury) will no longer sell Keynsham A.A. licences.

The eagle-eyed among you will have spotted that Mike Ewins is no longer Honorary Secretary following his resignation at the December Committee meeting. Mike has donated a huge amount of time to the Club during the last 4 years and his input will be greatly missed. Jason Allen is now acting Secretary until further notice.

9th Dec 2005 • Revised Name For Field 75, Working Party Change
Chewton Meadow (click to enlarge). Photo by Rich Denning. The Association's new stretch of the River Chew at Chewton Keynsham - Field 75 - will now be known as "Chewton Meadow", not "Uplands 15 Acre" as previously reported. This follows the unearthing of the field's traditional name in the book "Chewton Keynsham - A Millenium Book By Chewton Folk". The working party scheduled for Sunday 11th December at Chewton Meadow has been switched to Century Ponds, commencing at 1pm after the shoot.

4th Dec 2005 • Christmas Match Result, Shooting Date Change
Match winner Ian Tucker with the George Bingham Shield (click to enlarge). Photo by Jason Allen. Ian Tucker won the 2005 Christmas Match and the George Bingham Shield with an 11lb 12oz Carp. The All-Night Carp Match on 12th november was won by Shaun Porter with 72lb 5oz from peg 8.

The new 2006 Membership cards will be stocked in all shops by the middle of December. Don't forget that Century Ponds will be closed for a clay shoot on Sunday 18th December until 1pm as opposed to the 25th December which is advertised on current Membership cards. Apologies for the change of date.

8th Nov 2005 • Carp Match, Christmas Match, Working Party, Litter
Please note that the Old Pond at Century will be closed for a Carp Match this coming Saturday 12th Nov - apologies for the late notice. One or two places are still available for the Match. The Island Pond will be open as usual. Water levels are on the rise following recent rain. Several 20-pounders have been reported from the Old Pond in recent weeks.

A Club working party has been fixed for Sunday 11th December 2005 in order to prepare the new Chewton Meadow stretch - all Members are invited to attend and lend a hand. Meet at the Cricket Club car park at 10am. The George Bingham Christmas Match is on Sunday 4th December at Century Ponds. It's an Open Match, non-Members are welcome to enter. A large number of prizes have already been donated by Scott's Tackle, Veals Of Bristol and Antbait.

Members fishing Century Ponds are once again reminded to take all litter home with them - the problem appears to be increasing, with some Members even leaving discarded deck chairs behind. Anyone found leaving litter at the end of a days fishing may be banned from the venue.

22nd Oct 2005 • A.G.M. Summary, Christmas Match, New River Chew Water
Chewton Meadow (click to enlarge). Photo by Jason Allen. Day ticket and Membership prices were left unchanged at this years Annual General Meeting, held at Keynsham Cricket Club on 3rd October 2005. The Association would like to welcome Chris Rickards and Ian Tucker to the Committee and thank them for giving up some of their time to help the Club. John Heys is now Club Treasurer, assisted by Jason Allen.

A new rule has been passed making it compulsory for Carp anglers to use an unhooking mat at Century Ponds. The Club is pleased to announce the acquisition of a new stretch of the River Chew at Chewton Keynsham. Field 75, which will be known as "Chewton Meadow", is a 1km section of the Chew extending from Uplands Bridge to Chewton Place (right bank looking downstream).

29th Sep 2005 • Century Old Pond Closure, Venue Report
Members are reminded that Century Old Pond is closed all day on Saturday 1st October for an All-Night Carp Match. The Pond will re-open after the clay shoot on Sunday at 1pm. The Island Pond is open as usual on Saturday. A few good Bream to 4lb have been showing near the island, with Roach, Crucians, Perch and Tench also showing well. The larger Carp are still feeding in the Old Pond, with fish to 21lb reported in recent weeks.

27th Sep 2005 • Behaviour Warning From The Club Secretary
Dead Common Carp at Century Ponds (click to enlarge). Photo by Jason Allen. The Club Secretary has received numerous complaints from Club Members regarding unruly behaviour by selected Juniors at Century Ponds on Saturday 24th September 2005. Reports indicate that several Junior Members appeared to handle hooked fish carelessly, despite warnings from other anglers. The following day a double-figure Common Carp was found dead in the Old Pond.

The Club Secretary has asked for any anglers present on Saturday who may have witnessed the occurences to contact 07973 736519. All calls will be treated with the strictest confidentiality. Keynsham A.A. will not tolerate this kind of behaviour on Club waters. Lifetime bans will be issued to the culprits and to any subsequent rule-breakers. Junior Members must be accompanied by an Adult Member when fishing at Century Ponds.

21st Sep 2005 • Annual General Meeting Details
KAA badge The 2005 Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) will be held at Keynsham Cricket Club on Monday 3rd October 2005, commencing at 7:30 prompt. In accordance with Association Rule 8, any Member wishing to propose a motion must send written notice to the Secretary at least 10 days before the meeting. The closing date for proposals is Saturday 24th September 2005.

Century Island Pond is reportedly fishing well despite low water levels, with good numbers of Bream, Roach, Perch, Tench and Crucians showing. The Old Pond continues to produce good Carp to a variety of methods.

8th Sep 2005 • All-Night Carp Match Dates & Results, Carp Moving
A third All-Night Carp Match has been announced for Saturday 1st October at Century Old Pond, which will be closed all day on Saturday 1st October in order to accomodate the Match. The Island Pond will be open as usual. The second All-Night Carp Match was won by Martin Coombes with 28lb 5oz.

Note to all members fishing Century Island Pond - until further notice, all Carp (excluding Crucians) caught in the Island Pond are to be returned to the Old Pond in readiness for essential maintenance works due to be carried out during the winter. The Club intends to repair the leak and re-stock the Island Pond as part of a series of improvements this autumn and winter.

16th Aug 2005 • Changes To 2005 Match Calendar, Floating Ban Lifted
Please note that Century Old Pond will be closed all day on Saturday 3rd September in readiness for the second All-Night Carp Match. The Island Pond will be open as usual. Due to a general lack of interest from Members, the remaining Matches on the River Chew have been cancelled, except the Christmas Match and the All-Night Carp Matches at Century Ponds.

The sport at Century Ponds continues to improve, with numerous upper doubles and a few twenties making themselves known from the Old Pond. Corn still seems to be the bait of choice. Crucians, Roach and Tench have been showing from the Island Pond, which is still suffering from low levels. The floating bait ban has now been lifted.

19th Jul 2005 • Another 20-Pounder Shows Up, Match Result, River Chew Site
Adam Smith with a 21lb 14oz Century Mirror (click to enlarge). Century Ponds continues to produce quality fish as the summer progresses, with a 21lb 14oz specimen showing up twice in the last few weeks. The cracking Mirror was banked in early July by Adam Smith (see pic) and showed up during the recent Night Match trial at Century weighing an ounce less, bringing the confirmed number of twenties to at least 4.

Congratulations to Craig Clark who won the first All-Night Carp Match with a total catch of 62lb 14oz, followed by Paul Mogg with 45lb 11oz. Eight anglers fished the trial, with a repeat likely to take place in September.

The Island Pond continues to produce quality Roach to nearly 2lb, Bream to 3lb and a good showing of Crucians and Tench, despite the low water level. The Club intends to permanently fix the leak in the autumn. Don't forget that there is now a dedicated River Chew website up and running for those who are interested. The floating bait ban is still in force at Century Ponds. Anglers must vacate the venue no later than 10pm.

26th May 2005 • Parking Advice, Venue Report, Match Result
No Parking!! (click to enlarge). Photo by Alan Hemmings. Sport has improved at Century Ponds over the last few weeks, with numerous Carp to 20lb 3oz landed from the Old Pond. Upper singles have been showing in the Island Pond, along with good numbers of Skimmers to 2lb, Roach, Crucians and Tench. The Tench in particular have packed on the weight since their introduction last winter.

The recent Century Match was won by Adam Denham with 12lb 7oz. Members are reminded that cars are not permitted on the banks at Century Ponds. The image above should tell you why! A floating bait ban is now on at Century in order to protect the young geese and ducks currently residing at the venue. Any Member found damaging property on any Club water will be expelled from the Association. This follows recent damage to a newly planted tree and fire damage to a platform at the Ponds.

25th Apr 2005 • Match Result, Catch Report
Martyn Smith and his Match-winning catch (click to enlarge). Photo by Jason Allen. Martin Smith won the recent Match at Century Ponds with a fine bag 11lb 20z bag of Skimmers from peg 16. The next Match takes place on 22nd May at Century Old Pond.

Carp to 19lb have been reported from the Old Pond, with Tench and Skimmers making an appearance in the Island Pond, which is still full following recent rain.

8th Apr 2005 • Match News, Venue Report, Membership Upgrades
Gary Appleby with a 14lb 9oz Century Mirror (click to enlarge) Sport at Century Ponds is still very unpredictable - double figure Carp have been landed from the Old Pond (see picture), with smaller Carp and Skimmers also showing. A number of larger Carp have been returned to the Island Pond, which now contains at least 6 double figure fish. Expect the Crucians and Tench to start making an appearance as soon as the water temperatures rise.

The recent Matches have all been largely unsuccessful, with low turn outs and low catches. The next Match is on 24th April 2005 at Century Island Pond - draw at 1:30pm, fishing 2:30 to 6:30pm. The River Chew summer Series will start in earnest on June 19th with the Keeling Cup Match.

All Members please be aware that your Rod & Line licence will need renewing if you haven't done it already. Don't forget that you can now purchase a 2005 Gold Card which entitles the holder to fish at Century Ponds without having to buy a day ticket.

12th Feb 2005 • Match Cancelled, New Trees, New KAA Outlet
The Match at Century Ponds on 30th Jan was a complete wash out, with nobody catching at all. As a result, the scheduled February Match at the Ponds has been cancelled, the next Match being 13th March at the Mill Ground on the River Chew.

A total of 13 trees have been planted at the Ponds - please be extra careful not to damage the saplings while they take hold. You can now purchase day tickets and licences at Whitegate Nurseries, Stockwood Hill, which is on the doorstep of Century Ponds and is open on Sundays from 10am-4pm. Water levels in the Island Pond are now at maximum. Carp to 19lb have recently been reported from the venue.

14th Jan 2005 • Match At Century Ponds
There will be a Match on Sunday 30th Jan 2005 at Century Old Pond. The draw is at 10am, with fishing from 11am-3pm.
